An Earnings Season Research Checklist
Not financial advice. Verify claims independently.
A busy reporting week is easier to follow with a consistent research routine. This checklist is an educational workflow; treat every date as unverified until you confirm the source.
1. Confirm the event
Start with the company investor-relations page. Save the release date, call time, timezone, and source. Mark anything tentative rather than presenting it as confirmed.
2. Prepare a short question list
Write down the topics you want the report to resolve: revenue composition, margins, guidance, or management commentary. Separate your expectations from source material.
3. Keep definitions consistent
Label fiscal periods and distinguish adjusted figures from reported figures. A comparison is only useful when both sides use compatible definitions.
4. Record observations before conclusions
Capture what the release says, then record your interpretation in a separate field. Preserve links and timestamps so another reader can reproduce the review.
5. Review the process
After the call, note missing sources and questions that remain unanswered. If you use a simulator to explore a scenario, keep simulated outcomes separate from real performance; they do not establish future results.
